About us
MEDHOST is the leading provider of healthcare throughput solutions that revolutionize patient flow and the delivery of care, and its user-friendly designs drive user compliance. Recognizing the ED is often the front door to America’s healthcare system, MEDHOST was formed in 1997 to create a powerful technology to streamline ED throughput. Eventually the company expanded its patient flow expertise to impact healthcare enterprises as a whole.
Until MEDHOST, EDIS technologies were a rarity, as ED doctors and nurses generally recorded charges and important information by hand, spending more time on paperwork than with patients. MEDHOST’s EDIS is intuitive and as easy to use as an ATM. Since MEDHOST EDIS was designed by clinicians, features that can impede care and put patients at risk were eliminated, such as complicated drop-down menus, multiple screens, confusing dialogue boxes, multiple key strokes and other time-consuming processes. Because minutes, even seconds, can mean the difference between saving lives in the ED, MEDHOST knew that creating a technology designed to maximize the user experience would revolutionize the delivery of emergency care.
MEDHOST has continued to evolve its product suite, enhancing existing applications and adding new modules and functions based on Customer needs. MEDHOST EDIS version 4.2 is a CCHIT Certified® 08 Emergency Department Electronic Health Record, and features include real-time Patient Tracking with graphical ED floorplans to enhance staff communication and workflow; a behind-the-scenes automatic Charge Capture feature aimed at increasing revenue by ensuring that all performed procedures are recorded; one-touch Order Entry that facilitates immediate bedside care; multidisciplinary and flexible Charting modules that maximize documentation speed and clinical accuracy; integrated risk management solutions provided by The Sullivan Group; and First DataBank’s comprehensive drug database to minimize the opportunity for adverse drug events.
MEDHOST also offers ED Pass, a self check-in kiosk that reduces wait times and improves patient safety. ED Pass automatically screens for high-risk conditions and feeds information into the MEDHOST EDIS, extending visibility into the waiting room.
MEDHOST expanded its throughput offerings beyond the ED when MEDHOST Customers expressed the need for solutions to alleviate inpatient boarding in the ED. These patients waiting for an inpatient bed assignment minimize the available space to care for ED patients. Though executives directly impact hospital operations, there are few solutions geared toward the C-suite. OpCenter was developed to provide operational insight needed to drive significant hospital-wide improvements.
Reliable, real-time information about incoming admits, patient acuity and ED saturation helps executives make informed operational decisions without getting bogged down in the granular details associated with patient treatment. With OpCenter, executives have a high-level view, so they can proactively identify, target and address the hospital’s true pain points, such as patient throughput and satisfaction, resource utilization, and financial issues. The Web-based tool leverages information from MEDHOST’s EDIS and other hospital information systems, and it can be accessed from any computer or mobile device with Internet access and a browser, allowing executives to monitor the hospital’s health even when they are away.
MEDHOST’s latest innovation, called Care Clock, enables hospitals to utilize information from the EDIS and post current wait times on their websites or on outdoor advertising so patients can make informed decisions about where to seek care for non-urgent issues. Hospitals can use Care Clock to set expectations and impact patient satisfaction before patients even leave for the hospital.
The MEDHOST product suite has been adopted by leading institutions throughout North America and easily integrates with other leading hospital information systems, including MEDITECH, Cerner, Siemens and McKesson, Eclipsys, CPSI and HMS. In 2010, HealthTech Holdings, the parent company of Health Management Systems (HMS), acquired MEDHOST. As a sister company of HMS, which specializes in the development of healthcare IT products for community hospitals, MEDHOST is helping to bring integrated ED solutions to rural communities. In addition to its software solutions, MEDHOST employs experienced clinicians who provide Customers with extensive consulting, support and training services. These consultants offer comprehensive clinical and process analysis to ensure Customers are utilizing MEDHOST’s capabilities to maximize house-wide efficiencies.
MEDHOST’s Customer-driven approach has remained constant since the company’s founding, and most important, the company is dedicated to advancing healthcare IT and setting usability standards that enable clinicians to use software to easily deliver quality patient care.
