MEDHOST to Deliver New Technology Solutions on Microsoft Surface and Silverlight

Latest touch innovations to be demonstrated in the Microsoft booth #1232 at HIMSS

ADDISON, Texas – April 3, 2009 – MEDHOST, provider of the leading Emergency Department Information System (EDIS),  will demonstrate medical applications on the Microsoft Surface™  and Silverlight platforms at HIMSS, April 5-8, 2009, in Chicago.  Driven by the mission of enhancing patient care and safety, MEDHOST is one of the first healthcare ISVs to develop easy-to-use touch solutions designed to dramatically improve communication, operations and processes, as well as revolutionize the way that healthcare providers leverage computers to deliver care.

As a Microsoft Partner since 1999 and a Gold Certified Partner since 2007, MEDHOST has a strong relationship with Microsoft. Last year, the two companies collaborated to create one of the first multi-touch business intelligence dashboards for healthcare. MEDHOST is now expanding the prototype to include rich Web-based features using Microsoft Silverlight.  A visual prototype of MEDHOST’s robust dashboard will be available for demonstration on Microsoft Surface in Microsoft’s booth (#1232) at HIMSS.

MEDHOST recently expanded the use of touch technology to patients with the launch of a patient self-service touchscreen kiosk created with Microsoft’s .NET Framework 3.5 and Windows Presentation Foundation. Upon arriving at the emergency department (ED), patients can check in with the easy to use touchscreen kiosk, called ED PASS. After patients check in, their information instantly becomes visible in the MEDHOST EDIS, which gives clinicians a real-time view of the waiting room and immediately alerts them to any high-risk patients. Demonstrations of MEDHOST’s dashboard and ED PASS can be seen in the MEDHOST booth (#4617) during the show.

“At MEDHOST we are determined to produce innovative solutions that further enrich the user experience and improve patient care and safety,” said Eric Rock, co-founder and CTO of MEDHOST. “The platforms that Microsoft provide are a foundation for our software and play a part in our success of delivering such robust and easy-to-use touch solutions. We’re honored to work so closely with Microsoft to advance healthcare with cutting-edge technologies that will truly make a difference in hospital operations and patient care.”

MEDHOST is a highly visual, easy-to-use process management technology designed by clinicians to dramatically improve workflow, productivity and regulatory compliance, while supporting clinical workflow and enhancing patient safety. It provides real-time Patient Tracking, electronic Clinical Documentation with automated charge capture, widely adopted Physician Order Entry and real-time decision support for all levels of care providers.

“Creating a dynamic clinician friendly experience is as critical as ever, as healthcare is faced with rapid deployment of technologies to reduce errors, provide decision support and improve health outcomes,” said Chris Sullivan, U.S. health providers industry solutions director, Microsoft Corp. “MEDHOST’s interactive dashboard, built on Microsoft Surface and Silverlight, is a strong step in this direction, as it improves communication between providers and administrators, leading to safer and more efficient delivery of patient care.”

MEDHOST currently serves more than 160 facilities, including the Baylor Healthcare System in Texas, Catholic Healthcare West in California, Catholic Health System in New York and Tenet Healthcare Corporation. MEDHOST is the preferred EDIS provider of VHA Inc., a national cooperative serving more than 2,400 not-for-profit healthcare organizations. MEDHOST easily integrates with leading hospital information systems, including MEDITECH, Cerner, Siemens and McKesson.
