Integration, Success and Knowledge

At MEDHOST, we understand that integration is a must-have for the best delivery of care because an ED without integration is more prone to patient throughput delays, medication errors and clinical workflow disruptions. MEDHOST designed and built a scalable architecture to ensure that critical information is easily accessible to support our Customers’ patient safety efforts and workflow enhancements.

We reached out to our Customers to determine the most common integration issues, and we learned that many hospitals only have three options when it comes to accessing the clinical data generated from non-emergency department encounters and stored in the hospital information system (HIS).
  1. Search for the patient record within the HIS, a cumbersome task accompanied by a lengthy login process after the launching of the HIS application, tedious drop-down menus, keystrokes and multiple screens.
  2. Request data from the medical records department. A time-consuming process that prevents clinicians from keeping up with the fast pace of the ED.
  3. Not even bothering to look for data within the HIS. This is the worst-case scenario, as it can put the patient in harm’s way.
MEDHOST developed a more efficient process by leveraging the power of integration so that Customers can access a patient’s information within seconds. Using our robust interfacing capabilities, MEDHOST can create staff/patient contextual hyperlinks that take clinicians directly from MEDHOST to the HIS – more specifically, to the same patient record in the HIS that was active in MEDHOST when the hyperlink was clicked. An auto-login feature connects clinicians to the HIS without having to re-login – a significant time savings.

MEDHOST capabilities strategically align with ARRA “meaningful use” guidelines.  By utilizing our integration offerings, MEDHOST Customers have the ability to exchange health information throughout the hospital, specifically in regards to ancillary services, labs, care summaries and medication lists.
This extended access ensures that more patient data – from initial assessment to medication information – is easily available when it matters the most.

For more than 10 years, MEDHOST’s ease of use has driven unsurpassed clinician adoption, and our powerful integration tools make hospitals’ other systems more meaningful.
