Black Book's research found three themes consistently emerging from rural healthcare leaders:

• Execution capacity—not vision—is the biggest obstacle.
• Platform modernization delivers greater value than disconnected point solutions.
• Leadership teams increasingly evaluate technology based on sustainability, operational impact, security, and measurable outcomes rather than feature lists alone.

These findings reflect what many rural healthcare organizations already know. Success depends on choosing technology that simplifies operations rather than adding complexity.

One of the most significant takeaways from the report is that rural organizations are moving away from purchasing isolated applications.

Black Book notes that more than half of rural organizations expect to replace or comprehensively modernize their core clinical and financial platforms during their next modernization cycle. At the same time, respondents identified predictable costs, cloud deployment, interoperability, and integrated clinical and revenue cycle workflows as the most important selection criteria.
