MEDHOST Advances Clinical Mobility with Native iPad,® App for Emergency Department Information System

MEDHOST AXON app for emergency clinicians is the latest expansion of MEDHOST’s mobility strategy

PLANO, Texas – Oct. 10, 2013 – As part of its rapidly expanding mobility strategy, MEDHOST today introduced MEDHOST AXON, a native iPad® app that enables physicians and nurses to interact with its industry-leading emergency department information system (EDIS). MEDHOST pioneered touchscreen EDIS technology 15 years ago, so creating the MEDHOST AXON mobility platform to make clinician tools available anytime, anywhere is a logical evolution of MEDHOST’s EDIS.

Clinician-centric Mobility Strategy-

MEDHOST AXON was developed as part of MEDHOST’s clinician-centric mobility strategy. It is centered on helping ED clinicians streamline their daily workflows by enabling mobile interaction with the MEDHOST EDIS.

“MEDHOST AXON frees clinicians to have portable and simplified access to patient information, results and order entry, and it’s especially helpful in the ED where room space is limited,” said Craig Herrod, president of MEDHOST. “Many clinical systems force physicians to lose face-to-face interactions as data input drives them to look at the screen instead of the patient, but with MEDHOST AXON, a few swipes and taps gives physicians a wealth of information.”

Development of MEDHOST AXON was driven by clinicians who have benefited from MEDHOST’s EDIS for many years. They envisioned that a mobile application for EDIS would complement the core system . Also, should provide value for the clinician on the move throughout the ED. The order entry application physicians see on their iPad with MEDHOST AXON is exactly the same as the order entry they’re accustomed to seeing in MEDHOST’s EDIS on desktop computers, creating a consistent, multi-modal experience for clinicians.

Ordering Capability-

The initial MEDHOST AXON version is focused on providing clinicians comprehensive ordering capability because orders and treatments are physicians’ most important activities when caring for patients. Orders are also time critical, and they can significantly impact patient safety and the facility’s ability to meet Meaningful Use requirements.

“MEDHOST has always listened to ED clinicians and given them the technology they need to provide the best patient care as efficiently as possible. Because of that direct input by ED clinicians, MEDHOST AXON is the next evolution of MEDHOST’s relationship with ED clinicians,” Herrod said. “Mobility is a powerful addition to our EDIS. Especially, it’s something we know that ED clinicians want regardless of the size of their facility. Specifically, everyone is accustomed to relying on powerful hand-held devices that streamline our work and make our lives easier. MEDHOST is leading the charge to bring the same value of mobility to emergency medicine where clinicians need anywhere, anytime access to information the most.”

MEDHOST AXON was designed to fit any hospital’s mobility needs. It was initially developed for Apple iOS, the MEDHOST AXON platform will be available for any mobile device using HTML5. Moreover, MEDHOST AXON is available for download from the iTunes App Store℠.

MEDHOST AXON will be demonstrated at the ACEP Scientific Assembly in Seattle, Oct. 14-16, in booth #2101.
