MEDHOST® Customers Get Recognized by CMS as Five-Star Hospitals

MEDHOST, Inc congratulates its hospital customers recognized by CMS as 5-star facilities.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – March 27, 2019 – Since 2001 the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), along with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), have  assessed the quality of healthcare available to the American population. MEDHOST, Inc., a market-leading electronic health record (EHR) provider, is pleased to announce that in this most recent report, 19 of its hospital customers were recognized with the highest 5-star quality ratings.

Of the 4,500 hospitals assessed, 293 were awarded 5 stars. A 5-star rating is a significant accomplishment and recognition of the high quality of care being delivered to the local community.  This recognition is even more significant in context of other much larger 5-star recipients with international reputations.

When asked what being recognized as a 5-star facility by CMS meant to them, leadership from a handful of MEDHOST hospital customers echoed this sentiment.

The COO of Lakeland Community Hospital, Ashley Pool, stated that such recognition was an embodiment of the pride and dedication their staff exhibits in striving to offer patient-centered care.

The President and CEO of Northern Maine Medical Center, Peter Sirios, also pointed to how recognition as a 5-star hospital was indicative of the facility and staff’s dedication to their established mission.

Being recognized as a CMS 5-star hospital illustrates that we are achieving this mission and providing the care that our patients deserve. We are proud to continue these efforts.”

The CMS Hospital Quality Initiative is based on data provided to CMS through Hospital Compare and Data.Medicare.gov. Both healthcare data websites are meant to empower patients, families, and stakeholders with important information they need to make informed healthcare decisions. Using information garnered from these online sources on a quarterly basis, CMS publishes its Overall Hospital Star Ratings as part of its Hospital Quality Initiative program.

Star ratings are an important part of driving systematic improvements in care and safety, aspects all hospitals strive to achieve and maintain. In addition, by providing patients with direct access to meaningful hospital data, the rating system also helps drive quality improvements and harness competition to lower costs.
