MEDHOST® Now Offers Enhanced EPCS solution to MEDHOST EHR Customers

MEDHOST’s EPCS solution integrates with Imprivata Confirm ID™ in an offering designed to deliver end-to-end compliance with DEA and ONC requirements with minimal impact on prescriptions workflow.1

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – November 27, 2018 – MEDHOST, Inc., a provider of market-leading enterprise and departmental healthcare engagement solutions, announced today that it is now offering an added layer of security to its electronic prescriptions for controlled substances (EPCS) system. MEDHOST’s  Enterprise 2018 R1 Release will now include Imprivata Confirm ID™ for EPCS, the fast, secure signing solution that enables two-factor authentication for EPCS.

MEDHOST first partnered with Imprivata®, the healthcare IT security company, in 2009 to enable two-factor authentication for its order entry, pharmacy, and eMAR products. Later this partnership was extended to offer two-factor authentication in MEDHOST’s Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) with its 2015 release. The same two-factor authentication functionality is now available to clinicians utilizing MEDHOST’s ePrescribe solution with the MEDHOST Enterprise EHR 2018 R1 release.

While minimizing impact on their normal prescriptions workflow, the dual authentication will cross reference provider IDs with updated security and compliance regulations. The new enhancement will help fortify and safeguard facilities against unauthorized EPCS access, which is an often-contributing factor to prescription drug abuse.

“MEDHOST believes in constantly evolving through finding innovative and alternative technologies to advance healthcare needs and trends,” said Steve Starkey, Executive Vice President of Product at MEDHOST. “We strongly believe in finding new and effective ways in which EHR technology can be used to combat opioid abuse, while helping our customers support healthy and aware communities.”

“Equipped with the additional layer of EPCS security provided by Imprivata Confirm ID, MEDHOST can better help healthcare providers prevent prescribed opioid abuse. It is one more instrument in a hospital’s toolkit that can make a significant difference in the fight against this nationwide epidemic,” said Dr. Sean Kelly, Chief Medical Officer at Imprivata. “We are proud to partner with MEDHOST in this endeavor to help our joint customers prevent fraud, diversion, and abuse of opioid medications.”
