University of Puerto Rico Hospital Uses MEDHOST EHR to Attest for Stage 1 Meaningful Use

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – April 10, 2014 – University of Puerto Rico Hospital (UPR) in Carolina, a municipality located on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico, announced today that it has met Stage 1 Meaningful Use criteria. The 250-bed hospital leveraged the certified electronic healthcare record (EHR) and robust suite of Meaningful Use consulting services from MEDHOST, Inc., provider of market-leading enterprise, departmental and healthcare engagement solutions, to achieve compliance. By attesting for Meaningful Use, the hospital is eligible to receive certain incentive payments from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

“University of Puerto Rico Hospital in Carolina has always sought to apply market-leading and advanced technology to our care delivery practices, and the solutions from MEDHOST align with that objective. We don’t believe we could have attested for Meaningful Use as easily or quickly without the MEDHOST EHR in place,” said Diraida Maldonado, acting CEO of University of Puerto Rico Hospital in Carolina. “MEDHOST’s solutions are easy-to-use and support existing clinician workflow. And because of this, we have a very high adoption and acceptance of the technology. That is essential to meet the requirements of Meaningful Use.”

A MEDHOST Customer since 2008, UPR also sought the expertise of MEDHOST Meaningful Use consultants. As they prepared for Stage 1 and throughout their attestation period.

Meaningfulness

“MEDHOST’s Meaningful Use consultants guided us through every step of the process, and their assistance was important to our success. Specifically, This support, combined with the high usability of the MEDHOST EHR. Really sets MEDHOST apart and we believe was a key to UPR becoming one of the first Puerto Rican healthcare facilities. Especially, to attest for Stage 1 Meaningful Use,” said Francisco J. Perez, CIO of University of Puerto Rico Hospital in Carolina. “We are very pleased with what we have accomplished and feel very prepared to meet Stage 2 requirements.”

In addition to the fully integrated enterprise clinical and financial solution from MEDHOST, the hospital is also leveraging the MEDHOST Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) and is currently implementing the newest version of MEDHOST Physician Documentation. UPR continues to work with MEDHOST Meaningful Use consultants as it prepares to meet Stage 2 requirements.

“MEDHOST’s partnership with University of Puerto Rico Hospital in Carolina spans several years. Also, it demonstrates how healthcare organizations can more rapidly realize clinical and financial benefits. Also, meet regulatory requirements like Meaningful Use,” said Craig Herrod, president of MEDHOST. “It’s rewarding to see a Customer achieve such success. Moreover, we congratulate the hospital for being one of the leaders in Puerto Rico.”
