Massachusetts Health System Picks MEDHOST to Improve Patient Records Access

Heywood Healthcare adds MEDHOST EDIS to Athol Hospital for increased data exchange across enterprise

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Aug. 13, 2015 – As part of its strategy to improve system-wide care by standardizing processes and technology, Heywood Healthcare is expanding the MEDHOST Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) to Athol Hospital. By expanding the use of MEDHOST solutions, patient records are more easily accessible across the enterprise. Especially, giving clinicians a comprehensive view of a patient’s medical history.

“It’s imperative for a patient’s medical record to follow them, especially when they seek care at different locations within the same healthcare system. Better visibility reduces repeat tests and brings numerous other benefits, the most important of which are quality care and improved patient satisfaction,” said Heywood Healthcare vice president and chief information officer Carol Roosa “By implementing the MEDHOST EDIS at Athol Hospital, Heywood Healthcare will become a prime example of how to effectively make patient information accessible at multiple locations. This is something we’re very proud of, especially because it aligns with many Meaningful Use objectives.”

MEDHOST EDIS

Clinician satisfaction also drove the decision to expand use of the MEDHOST EDIS, as feedback regarding its ease of use. Also, how the solution fits into existing workflow has been extremely positive. With both hospitals using the same emergency department (ED) physician group, standardized, best practices and documentation methods can be applied in both EDs to increase operational efficiencies and physician satisfaction.

Athol Hospital also expects to be able to more effectively track and report for reimbursement purposes the time physicians are present in the ED but not needed to provide care because the MEDHOST EDIS also includes Physician Downtime Reporting capabilities for easy and accurate tracking.

“Expanding the use of the MEDHOST EDIS throughout a health system means clinicians have access to patient data across the care continuum, which can contribute to improved care experiences and clinical outcomes,” said Craig Herrod, president of MEDHOST. “MEDHOST firmly believes in helping organizations differentiate care with standardized processes and increased data exchange, which are vital to making care more meaningful.”
